Jefferson Lab

Description Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) is a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science national laboratory. Scientists worldwide utilize the lab’s unique particle accelerator, known as the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF), to probe the most basic building blocks of matter - helping us to better understand these particles and the forces that bind them - and ultimately our world.

PhysicsFest
Physics Fest is a part-experiment, part-demonstration program that features entertaining and educational displays of cryogenics and plasmas. The program also introduces the audience to the types of experiments conducted at the lab and some of the technologies used to carry them out. The program’s array of demonstrations is designed to help kids better understand scientific principles and research methods. Audience members will learn about the phases of matter, starting with demonstrations using liquid nitrogen at a frigid -321 degrees Fahrenheit, and ending with plasmas.
Notes: CHEC families have previously attended this event and it is fantastic.
