Tour of Montpelier and Choice of Guided Experience at James Madison’s Montpelier

Description: Discover the rich history of the plantation on this guided tour of James Madison's Montpelier. The tour will be led by a trained educator. After our 60 minute tour, participants can choose one of two 60 minute Guided Experiences: Option 1 - Colonial Games (geared toward K-2nd) - Play the same outdoor games James Madison did as a child. Option 2 - The Mere Distinction of Colour Exhibit (geared toward 4th-12 grade) - This exhibit spans the cellars of the plantation home and the South Yard of the property, where the enslaved people lived and worked. Provocative, interactive, and emotional, The Mere Distinction of Colour offers students the unique opportunity to hear the stories of those enslaved at Montpelier told by their living descendants, and explore how the legacy of slavery impacts the world today. I realise that 3rd grade is not represented in the age ranges provided by Montpelier for these programs. Parents of 3rd graders can choose which group best fits their student.
